I love this bookcase. There are NO fumes or chemical smells when you first open it. It is small, so make sure you read the measurements given in this product's listing, plus view the provided photo of the bookcase with the measurements labeled (you can find the photo in the product photos section). With that info, measure anything you plan to place inside of it *before* purchasing. This way, you'll know what you can and can't fit in it. It'll fit most books up to about 9.5" tall. The listing says "some assembly required", but in actually, it's full assembly required. It took me a good 2 hours to put it all together, but that was because I made a few mistakes along the way. It's all good, I managed to get it all assembled and it looks great in my tiny apartment. A little bit of patience is all you need when putting it together. Don't do it when you're stressed out or are in a hurry. The door handles are very cheap plastic, but what do you expect from a $35 bookcase? All in all, a great product! Just be sure to do your homework and take the proper measurements before buying!
