Let me start by saying that I personally sought out the Hooker brand because my parents bought Hooker furniture over 10 years ago. My parents desk still looks great and I was always impressed by the quality. Without doing much research, we came across the Preston Ridge collection at a reputable furniture store. We decided to purchase the furniture (I didn't know much about furniture construction prior to this purchase), without knowing that between the time my parents purchased their collection and today, Hooker had moved their manufacturing from the United States to China. With that said, below is what I personally ran into with the furniture on 2 different delivery occassions: 1. The vaneer literally peeled off a number of drawers with the rubbing of a finger. 2. Drawers / doors did not sit center in the framing / casing around it (this furniture was sitting on level wood floors in my house) - the drawers were rubbing against the frame, which would show wear easily over time by opening and closing. 3. The painting / staining was not finished off in the framing / casing around a drawer and could be easily seen when the drawer was shut. 4. On the back of the hutch, an approximate 2"X2" piece had come off and the manufacturer appeared to just glue the piece back on. The furniture store did the right thing by refunding my money after being completely dissatisfied. I am happily paying $2500 more than this entire set cost for solid wood Amish craftsmenship that is custom order / made to order. If you are looking for a family heirloom, check again with this set.
